It was my pleasure be asked to join in on this
gig. JJaks Soton has got to be a top venue in the south for these sorts of
nights. It sold out thanks to the local support acts. A friend of 2 tonic
asked to DJ some Northern kicking the night off.
WHAT
THE REAL NOW
These boys have been playing
together for two and a half years which showed, songs from The Who, Small
Faces and The Specials hit Gangsters thrown in for good measure made for a
great opening act.
A
2 TONIC
I promoted a night on St
George's day last year with these blokes because they really are a
brilliant band. I introduced them tonight as local legends and
their slightly overrun 90 minute set had the house a pumping. It was
great to see that so many people dancing were proudly wearing 2 Tonic
merch (I didn't like to ask Hint Hint).
If this genre of music wasn't
still so underground because people still wrongly think Ska was an 60
-80's thing and real issues should be sung in 'boring ballets' or Hip Hop
street Gangster style with those Fucking baseball caps, these blokes and
their current self penned material would be in the charts. Loved your
version of Bankrobber and your Christmas song was a cherry on the
cake! They are local again at The Brook on the 7th January must see.
GREAT
BAD MANNERS
I have promoted, supported, or
just skanked the night away to Bad Manners must be 15 times in the last 3
and a half years. Why are they so in demand? Buster still kicks ass that's
why. The tracks, brass section are 2nd wave Ska at it's best and there is
ease of 'getting' to a local venue that have wisely booked them.
You thin bastard not sure if
Buster likes that one! He must be hearing it a lot at his gigs now a
days. He may be a shadow of his former self but if that's what it takes to
keep this man at the top of his profession for another 25 years then so be
it!.
NIGHT!
I did manage to get a few
songs in myself and DJ'ed a bit of Punk to change the tempo.
